RUFINA

RUFINA

Rufina is a little town on the hills of vineyards and olive groves. It’s on the East of Florence. We took a local train in the morning and we arrived there in about half an hour. I’s only a few stops away from heaven.
Elizabeth who is the representative of Villa di Vetrice waited for us at the train station already.
Villa di Vetrice is a warm and cozy place built in the 13th century.
The size of the vineyard is 562 acres and they have more than 1200 Olive trees!

The uniqueness of Chianti Rufina wine is the its strength and a robust elegance. The tannin is well-balanced. It’s fruity and vividly acidic. It is a wine that’s good for keeping for long time. You should try the Villa di Vetrice Reserve which is the highlight of their products.

We have visited their precious wine cellar. Each Oak barrique contains 600 litres of wine!

After that Elizabeth showed us the Vin Santo cellar. We saw the “Caratelli” or the Vin Santo pots and learned how the Vin Santo is made in here. They have to hang the grapes with the bamboo in order to get dry grapes with high sugar. That’s why the Vin Santo is sweeter.
Their Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina Riserva served with Cantucci was really good. Apart from having it with desserts , it’s also good with mature cheese or as Elizabeth told us ,you can have Vin Santo as the aperitif.

Lunch was served after the wine tasting. We tasted their selection of wine with pasta , prochiutto ham and Bruschetta.
The scenery was breath-taking. Having an espresso in such beautiful surrounding was a blessing of my day.
We were shown the factory where they bottled the wine. My friends enjoyed shopping there very much. We came back from Rufina with shopping bags from their souvenir shop.

What an impressive day in Rufina.
