Italian Home Cooking

It was my dream to study abroad in Italy. I waited for the right time, and to my surprise, I turned 72 years old, but I made it happen for a total of 8 weeks: 4 weeks of home cooking and 4 weeks of jewelry! The support of my family gave me strength. I am determined to fully enjoy the two months I have been given.

Italian Home Cooking Short Course (#2) – M.I.

The second week started, and we gradually became accustomed to the road to the classes, and began to enjoy it despite our nervousness. In the evening from 17:00 to 18:30, we participated in the weekly Art Visit and received a detailed explanation while circling the Duomo, the symbol of Florence.

I left a little early in the morning and went for a walk around the city, which was still a little empty, before class. Today’s lesson was “Arancini” Arancini “Rice Croquettes”, a traditional Sicilian classic recipe. They are much larger than I expected, and gobbling is the best way to describe them, but they are irresistibly delicious. Filling!

We had dinner with our friends who had survived a day late arrival in Florence with us (lol). The long-awaited Fiorentina Bistecca, right near the Church of Santa Croce! We are happy today and the food story continues.

The last day of the first half of the two-week-long Cooking Lesson was “Rigatoni with vegetable sauce,” “Baked rabbit stuffed with vegetables,” “Pipi e patata (peppers and potatoes) with garnish,” and “Chocolate tart”! We had to eat something to fill up our stomachs! And since the weather was fine, I went for a walk to Piazzale Michelangelo, which is only 19,735 steps away from the restaurant. I walked 19,735 steps today.

Although I had no plans for Saturday, I went for a leisurely walk in the afternoon to check out places I wanted to visit in the city. Because it was a holiday, it was very crowded, and so was the area around the museum. I was reminded that I had to make a reservation for the museum.
We then went to the morning market at Santo Spirit Church, which was also an organic market. We bought fresh vegetables, bread, and olives. Cheese, honey, yogurt, olive oil, and other foodstuffs, but also handmade fabrics, accessories, and so on. And it was quite nice to have lunch and watch people passing by.
