Day 1: After an adventurous start, I went to the orientation.

I had about five years of experience in engraving in Japan, but I went back to my beginnings and started by cutting out a brass plate.

The teacher commented that I was better at cutting out curves (lol).
She also carefully taught me how to rasp. After that, we made a pattern on a brass plate and made a ring!

Day1：大の方向音痴に加え、日本で買ったガイドブックを忘れてくるという失態を冒し、朝からバス停で降りそこない、アドベンチャーなスタートののち、オリエンテーションへ。
ガイダンスのあと、教室に移動してさっそくジュエリーメイキングの授業がスタート！
日本では5年ほど彫金の経験がありましたが、初心に帰って真鍮板の切り出しから。
日本では使ったことのない道具（コンパス）を使っての線引きに四苦八苦したり、直線を糸鋸できるのがうまくいかずがたがたになったり（汗）この後休憩時間に、近くの材料屋さんに銀を買いに通訳の方につれて行ってもらいました。材料のほかにも素敵なジュエリーが置いてあって、うっとり・・・
曲線の切り出しのほうが上手ですねって先生からコメントいただきました（笑）
鑢のかけ方も丁寧に教えてくれます。その後、真鍮板に模様をつけて、リングを作りました！


Day2: On this day, I took a drastic wrong turn to the station and slipped into the classroom just in time. Today, we started with silver to make a pendant top with a leaf motif, by melting copper mixed with sterling silver that we went to buy yesterday. It was hot and I was sweating. The teacher did the mixing of silver and copper; I learned the Italian word Rame (copper). The finished silver was processed into plates with a roller. I was so clumsy that I couldn’t match the front side of the plate with the back side, so the teacher laughed at me…

Day2:この日は駅までの道を思いっきり間違え、時間ギリギリに教室へ滑り込み。今日はシルバーで、葉っぱのモチーフのペンダントトップを作るべく、昨日買いに行った純銀に銅を混ぜて溶かすところからスタート。暑くて汗だくに。銀と銅の配合は先生がやってくれました。Rame（銅）というイタリア語を覚えました。できた銀を、ローラーで板に加工しました。たくさん伸ばして、1ミリの板にして、ここから、葉っぱのイラストをトレースして切るのですが、不器用で裏に貼る板と表があってなくて先生に笑われてしまいました…

The cut leaves were then shaped and processed into puffy leaves (fixed to a yani stand and tapped with an arrowhead tapper). The Italian yani smelled like asphalt. To my surprise, the burner used to heat the metal was a type where air was blown into the gas with the mouth! My face turned bright red from the unfamiliarity of the work.

After the class, we had a delicious lunch (at a restaurant full of gimmottei, which our interpreter told us about) and then went to Palazzo Pitti! On the way there, we stopped at the jewelry store in Ponte Vecchio, but the Treasure House was amazing and impressive! It was a cool day, so we spent sunset time together on the terrace of the landlord’s house. We were enchanted by the beautiful sunset as we talked about various things.

その後、切り出した葉っぱの形を整えて、ふくらみのある葉っぱに加工（ヤニ台に固定して、矢坊主でこんこんたたく）。イタリアのヤニはアスファルトの様なにおいがしました。驚いたのは、金属等を温めるバーナーのエア（ガスに空気を送り込む）が口で息を吹き込むタイプだったこと！なれない作業に顔が真っ赤になりました。

授業の後おいしいお昼（通訳さんに教えてもらったジモティばかりのレストラン）ののち、ピッティ宮殿に行きました！途中のポンテベッキオのジュエリーショップにも目が釘付けでしたが、宝物殿がすばらしくて、感動！この日は涼しかったので、大家さんの家のテラスで一緒にサンセットタイム。いろいろお話しながら、きれいな夕日にうっとりでした。

Day3: Today, we start by brazing the front and back of the leaves we made yesterday. In Japan, we use flux, but in Italy, this is what we use. (borace).

I was puzzled by the difference in procedure from flux, and had a hard time brazing. Finally, I managed to weld the front and back of the leaf. The back of the leaf was a little larger than the front, so I carefully shaped it with a file. The teacher took a good look at it and said that it was generally good, but advised me to do it better from a professional’s point of view. If you are told that, you want to make it look professional, don’t you? (Laughs) We carefully shaped it with a file to look like a real leaf. The goal is to make it so beautiful that you can’t even tell it’s been glued.
It was very hot that day, so we went to a restaurant where we could use the meal coupon we got at school, and had a very nice pizza and beer while having lunch.

Day3:今日は、昨日作った葉っぱの表と裏をロー付けするところから。日本ではフラックスを使いますが、イタリアではこれ。（ボラーチェ）

フラックスとの手順の違いに手惑い、ロー付けに苦労。やっとのことで何とか葉っぱの表と裏を溶接しました。葉っぱの裏の方がちょっと大きかったので、鑢で丁寧に形を整えていきます。先生はしっかりみてくれて、おおむねいいが、プロの目から見たらもっとこうしたほうがいいとアドバイス。そういわれたら、プロ級に仕上げたくなりますよね？（笑）ひたすら鑢で本物の葉っぱのように丁寧に成形していきます。接着したのがわからないほどに美しく仕上げるのが目標そうです。
この日はとても暑かったから、学校でもらったミールクーポンが使えるお店でランチついでにビールも（笑）ピザがとてもおいしかったです。

Day4:
Today, we will weld the stem to the leaf that has been glued front and back, and polish it to a shiny finish.
First, we shape the leaf with a rasp and polish it with a buffing machine. The teacher shows us how to polish it, and it looks shiny!

今日は、表と裏を接着した葉っぱに茎の部分を溶接し、ぴかぴかに磨いて仕上げていく行程です。
まずは鑢で形を整えて、バフ（研磨用の機械）を使って磨きます。先生がお手本をみてくれながら磨いて、ぴかぴかに！

A pendant top in the shape of a fluffy leaf is completed. From here, you can choose to carve in your own design or leave it as is. It is very satisfying to learn jewelry making according to your level and what you want to do. Time flies by as we chat happily with the interpreter and work at our crafts.

ふっくらとした葉っぱの形のペンダントップがひとまず完成。ここから、デザインで彫りいれてもいいし、このままでもよいし、好きなデザインを選べます。レベルややりたいことに合わせて、ジュエリーメイキングを学べるのがとても満足度が高いです。通訳さんも交えて楽しくおしゃべりしたり、もくもくと作業したりで時間はあっという間に過ぎていきます。

I didn’t bring any bags from Japan except a backpack, so I bought a cute bag here after asking the interpreter for a recommendation! It’s cute and I really like it ^^.

日本からバックパック以外のバッグを持ってこなかったので、こちらでかわいいバッグを通訳さんにおすすめを聞いて買いました！かわいくて、本当にお気に入り^^

Day5:
This is Friday. After a busy week, today was an art visit (a guided tour of cultural spots in the city). The theme of the day was Dante. Students who are taking other courses are also joining us for a fun and lively tour. The teacher and interpreter lead the tour. Since it was hot during the day, the tour started at 6:30 pm. Since we had time until then, we went to the Uffizi Gallery. It was a great sight, and I was tired on the way there, so I decided to go back again. I was impressed by Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus and Spring.

Day5:
この日は金曜日。バタバタの一週間が終わって、今日はアートビジット（街中のカルチャースポットを案内してくれる）。この日のテーマはダンテ。他のコースをとっている学生サンたちも一緒に楽しくワイワイとツアー。先生と通訳さんが引率してくれます。日中は暑いので、夕方6時半からになりました。それまで時間があったので、ウフィツィ美術館へ。圧巻、途中疲れてしまったので、もう一度行こうと思っています。ボッティチェリのビーナスの誕生と春、に感動。

なんで？！浮気じゃん、と女子みんなでワイワイ盛り上がりました、笑

Afterwards, I went to eat at a restaurant where the homecooking lesson was held, together with an American student who is taking homecooking. PICI (peachy) pasta, which is like udon noodles, is very chewy and tasty, but seems to be very difficult to make by hand. The chefs at the restaurant were very friendly, funny, and fun. We also had an after-dinner drink of lemoncello. I think I’m going to get drunk, lol!>

その後、ホームクッキングのレッスン場所であるレストランに、ホームクッキングを取っているアメリカ人の学生さんと一緒に食べに行きました。うどんのようなパスタ、PICI(ピーチー)はとても歯ごたえがあっておいしく、でも手で作るのがとても難しいみたいです。レストランのシェフたちはとても気さくで面白くて楽しいひと時でした。食後酒のレモンチェッロもいただきました。酔っ払いそう、笑

Day6:
This day we had an excursion at 8:00 a.m. to San Gimignano, a small cute town about an hour by bus from Florence. It is a walled town with historic buildings and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was like stepping back in time to the Middle Ages. Everyone was taking pictures of the lovely town. It was hot, but we climbed to the top of Oka to enjoy the spectacular view. On the way to the top, we were taken to a gelato shop that claims to be a world champion, and we had a very delicious gelato. It was so hot I forgot to take a picture, but it was really delicious ^^.

Day6:
この日は朝8時から遠足がありました。San Gimignanoというフィレンツェからバスで一時間ほど行った小さなかわいい街です。歴史的な建造物でユネスコの世界遺産でもある城壁の町。まるで中世にタイムトリップしたようです。素敵な街並みにみんな夢中で写真を撮ってました。暑かったけど、岡の上まで登り絶景を楽しみました。途中、ワールドチャンピオンだというジェラート屋さんに連れて行ってもらい、とてもおいしいジェラートを食べました。暑くて写真を撮り忘れましたが、本当においしかったです^^

After that, we were free to do whatever we wanted. I went with a group of wine lovers to a winery where we enjoyed several varieties of wine, including San Gimignano’s famous white grape wine, and we walked there in the heat of the day! It was worth the trip, and we had four different wines to go with the delicious cheese and salami!

その後は自由行動。私はワイン好きの人たちと、ワイナリーに行きました。San Gimignanoの有名な品種である白ブドウのワインなど、何種類かを楽しめるそうで、熱い中歩いて行ってきました！行ったかいがあって、おいしいチーズ、サラミ、に合わせて四種類のワインをいただき、最高でした！
